High Point's Origin
High Point Community Development was founded in California's Antelope Valley to be a place of hope for people who too often have nowhere else to turn. What began with one person listening to the community's needs has grown into a trusted organization committed to helping individuals, families, and neighborhoods heal and thrive.
For months, Dr. Paul Smith volunteered in churches and community organizations in the Antelope Valley. During that time, he met men and women returning home from incarceration, individuals seeking to leave gang life behind, survivors of gun violence, and families struggling to overcome trauma. While their stories were different, one need was remarkably consistent: they needed a trusted place where they could find compassion, guidance, practical support, and genuine opportunities to rebuild their lives.
Recognizing that gap, Dr. Smith envisioned more than another nonprofit. He envisioned a community hub where professional services, lived experience, faith, and authentic relationships would come together to create lasting change. That vision became High Point Community Development Corporation.

Vision to Fruition
Today, High Point is a family-centered, trauma-responsive organization staffed by dedicated professionals and community leaders, including licensed clinical professionals, case managers, credible messengers, a retired U.S. Army Sergeant First Class, interns, and volunteers.
More than a resource fair, AVOSS is a place where relationships are built, trust is restored, and individuals discover a community committed to their long-term success.
Together, we provide counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy, mentorship, workforce development, case management, and immediate assistance for life's everyday challenges through our "Big-Small Stuff" Initiative.
AVOSS
We also created the Antelope Valley One-Stop Shop (AVOSS).
AVOSS brings government agencies, healthcare providers, schools, faith communities, nonprofits, and community organizations together in one location, making it easier for individuals and families to access coordinated, trauma-informed services without having to navigate multiple disconnected systems.
By bringing diverse partners together in a single accessible location, AVOSS advances equity by ensuring critical resources are available to those who have historically faced the greatest barriers to access.
At High Point, we believe healing happens when people are treated with dignity, surrounded by supportive relationships, and connected to meaningful opportunities.
Whether someone is returning from incarceration, recovering from violence, rebuilding after trauma, or simply searching for hope, our goal is to walk beside them every step of the journey.
Every life restored strengthens a family. Every family strengthened transforms a neighborhood. Every neighborhood transformed builds a healthier community.
